Introducing the 2019 NASH Cup Professional Entries

PSA (Professional) entries for the 2019 NASH Cup closed today and we are excited to share that the 2019 NASH Cup is set to feature a record number of competitors ranked in the world’s top 100 players. A record total purse of $32,000 USD has attracted top athletes from around the world to complete at London Squash & Fitness from September 17-21st. The event will be the second largest purse in Canada for 2019.

·       Still the only PSA event in the world with a larger women’s purse.
·       Players coming from 24 countries – including first time representation from Spain & Ukraine
·       27 of 43 global entries ranked in the world’s top 100
·       13 First time participants in men’s draw

The Women’s Draw

The women’s draw is the strongest the NASH Cup has seen with 21 players ranked in the world’s top 100. Several fan favourites are returning to London Squash including Canada’s Nikki Todd (wr 62) who is the only player to compete in all 7 years of the NASH Cup Women’s division.

Top seed Melissa Alves was a last-minute addition at the 2018 tournament. She shocked the crowd by powering her way it to the quarter finals. Since then Melissa has jumped from 194th to 45th in the world rankings and is looking to be the first French player to win the NASH Cup trophy.

The women’s draw is loaded with players currently on the rise. Seven of the top 10 are currently within 3 positions of their best ranking. There are also a number of veterans who could come through as spoilers including Donna Lobban of Australia (wr 65) who has been ranked as high as 13th globally.

The Men’s Draw

The men’s draw is highlighted by the return of our 2018 Champion Alfredo Avila of Mexico (wr71) as well as finalist Chris Binnie (JAM; wr96) and semi-finalist Vikram Malhotra (IND; wr63). In 2018 Vikram continued to Charlottetown the following week and walked away the champion.

A major shift in Canadian entries sees the NASH Cup without Andrew Schell; Shawn Delierre or Mike McCue for the first time since 2010. In their place come the next wave of Canadian squash stars led by Cameron Seth (wr 126) of Fergus Ontario. Joining him are Thomas King (wr203) and first time Nash Cup participants Cory McCartney (wr 217); Darosham Khan (wr 266); Connor Turk (wr 269) and London Squash’s own Jayden Shortt (wr 410).

The NASH Cup is one of 17 PSA events taking place in Canada during 2019 and offers the country’s second largest purse. It has been a grass roots, volunteer run, not-for-profit event since its 2008 launch. The tournament’s success is driven by the members of London Squash & Fitness; dedicated sponsors; and an incredible volunteer committee.
